Get Started!

1. After logging in to the course at http://courses.missouri.edu, look around the course
2. Find the syllabus, print it out, read it, ask questions (drricirch@missouri.edu)
3. Complete the "Start Here" module (go to main navigation bar on the left of the course to find this).

About the Syllabus and Schedule

The first thing you should do after logging in and finding this message, is to read and print the syllabus (find this in the Syllabus link in the main navigation). There is a copy of the SCHEDULE at the end of the syllabus. This syllabus is an important document that will help you stay organized in the course. If you have any questions about the syllabus, please send me an email right away.

Begin the "Start Here" module (available in the left navigation)

1. Read the "Introduction Readings"
This short note will you give you an idea of what we will be covering in the course.

2. Take the Information Literacy Self-Test
This is an ungraded self-test to give you an idea of what we will be studying in this course. This self-test is meant to give you an idea of what is to come and what you will learn.

3. Post Introduction to Discussion
In each unit, you will participate in a class discussion. For your first day, you can practice this course component by introducing yourself in the Introductions forum. You will start the first official discussion in Unit 1.To find the discussion board, you can either click the link to the "Discussion Board" in the left navigation or access the Introduction Discussion in the "Start Here" area.

4. Take the Extra Credit Syllabus Quiz.
You can earn 10 extra credit points right away for taking the syllabus quiz! You can find the syllabus quiz in the "Start Here"area titled "Syllabus Quiz". Or you can go the "Quizzes" link in the main navigation. Take it as many times as you want until you get 100%.

About the Class

In this class, we will work on improving your skills as information consumers and student researchers, in the library and on the World Wide Web. In each unit, you will have readings, a quiz, 2 required discussion posts, an assignment (in that order) and reflection. The weekly assignment will be building up to the final project which is to compose an annotated bibliography. There is no final exam in this course.

Next Steps......

After you complete your introduction and take the syllabus quiz in the "Start Here" area, you can start Unit 1 by reading the Unit 1 readings, taking the Unit 1 quiz and posting to the Unit 1 Discussion. After you complete the module, reflect on the process in your research journal. Links to all of these components are in the "Learning Units" area in the "Unit 1" folder.
